About Sam
On the 5th May 2022, I was elected as one of two County Councillors for the Hawarden & Mancot ward on Flintshire County Council.
I have lived on Park Avenue for more than 25 years and am proud to call our community my home. I went to our local schools, starting at Hawarden Infants before moving onto Rector Drew and Hawarden High School.
At County Hall, I won't take instructions from party management, only from the residents of Hawarden & Mancot.
I will continue to lead the fight against the Gladstone Estate Build, doing everything within my power to have this community-wrecking development defeated.
Hawarden & Mancot have come together time and time again to defeat damaging proposals for our community. I will put our residents first and always stand up for Hawarden & Mancot.
Standing up for Hawarden & Mancot
Ending Overdevelopment: Overdevelopment in our community has been good for builders' profits, but not much else. Our drainage system has been overwhelmed, our green space has been lost and our existing infrastructure; schools, doctors, dentists, cemeteries and roads are all stretched to breaking point.
Proper Flood Defences: The flooding of our roads and properties is becoming more frequent. Overdevelopment means our flood defences, drainage and sewage systems are no longer fit for purpose. For far too long, Hawarden & Mancot have been fobbed off with sticking plaster solutions. I will demand that the agencies involved fund proper, long-term flood defences.
Backing Local: Hawarden & Mancot have lots of thriving local businesses and community groups. I will create and distribute a directory to all households in Hawarden & Mancot promoting local community groups and businesses.
Working for all of Hawarden & Mancot: Rural lanes such as Rake Lane, Moor Lane and Tinkersdale are often hotspots for speeding and rural crime, yet are often ignored. I will campaign alongside residents for safer roads and demand a proper police response from North Wales Police to crime on our lanes.
Health Services for All: Getting a doctors' appointment locally is an increasingly difficult task, with lengthy telephone queues. With the GP in Queensferry moving, the health board must come up with proposals to ensure that everybody in our community is able to access a doctor and that must include considering a new surgery here.
Standing up to Vested Interests: Whether it is the Gladstone Estate trying to cash in on our community's land, or Wyldecrest refusing to make improvements for residents on Willow Park, I will always be willing to stand up against wealthy and powerful vested interests. Our community is a close-knit and vibrant one - I won't allow that to be wrecked in the pursuit of profit.
